Jute is a long, soft, shiny plant fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is produced from plants in the genus Corchorus. Jute is second only to cotton, in amount produced and its variety of uses. Jute fiber is composed primarily of the plant materials cellulose and lignin.
Jute is a rainy season crop that grows best in warm, humid climates. The world's finest Jute is produced in the Bengal Delta Plain, mostly in Bangladesh & India.
Some Features of Jute:
- 100% biodegradable & recyclable, and thus environmentally friendly.
- A vegetable fiber procured from bark of the Jute plant, falls into the category of bast fibers (other bast fibers (other bast fibers include Flax, Hemp, Ramie, etc.).
- High tensile strength.
- One of the most versatile natural fibers that can be used in raw materials for packaging,
textiles and agricultural sectors.
- A catalyst in quick growth of vegetation, Jute coalesces with the soil, increasing its
permeability and retaining the appropriate humidity as "mulch", thus creating a micro-climate
conducive to vegetative growth. It helps forests grow!
